Today, we'll be reviewing the Thule Hitching Post Pro 4 Bike Carrier, part number TH9. XTR. This bike rack can be used in both 1- 1/4- inch and 2- inch hitches and the vehicle today that we'll be installing it on has a 2- inch hitch. We'll need to install the adapter sleeve. We'll slide the sleeve over the 1- 1/4- inch hitch shank. We'll line up the small threaded hole and install our bolt. We can then tighten it down with an Allen wrench. That readies our bike rack for a 2- inch hitch, so we'll go ahead and install it. Now, you're Hitching Post Pro comes with an anti- rattle bolt, flat washer and lock washer which we'll use to secure to the vehicle. Also included with the Hitching Post Pro is their multipurpose tool. We'll now slide the shank into the hitch. ![]() We can then line up the hitch pin hole and install our anti- rattle bolt. We can then use the multipurpose tool to tighten down our anti- rattle bolt, and with a quick shake, you could see our bike is secured to the vehicle. If you would like to secure your bikes to the bike rack, you can use this islet which is our cable lock. Another great feature of this bike rack is the mast's ability to tilt out of the way to access the cargo area. To do this, we'll simply remove the lanyard, pull your pin, and the bike rack folds down, which gives us plenty of room to access our cargo area. After retrieving the items from our trunk, we'll simply fold it back up, reinstall our pin, and secure it with the lanyard. To remove them, you'll simply pull them in and pull them straight down. Now, we're ready to go ahead and load our bike. Now, we're going to go ahead and mount our bike on the outermost cradles for demonstration purposes only. We'll then place our bike into the cradles and make sure that our anti- sway cage meets the seat post. We can then strap down the top post and move to our anti- sway cage. Pull it tight, strapping it down. That will secure our bike to the bike rack. The grooves are molded into the cradle to help prevent your cables on your bicycles from getting crushed while sitting in the carrier. Thule also includes an anti- sway strap to help prevent movement of the bikes on the carrier. To install the strap, we'll simply wrap it around our bicycle, and with our strap around the bike, we can then go around the mast of the bike rack which will further secure your bike to the bike rack. We'll then take the excess strap and secure it back to itself to prevent it from blowing in the wind. Now that we've demonstrated our installation, our bike will go ahead and move it to the innermost cradles and take it on a drive.
